1. How Do You feel the media portrays social justice issues?

To tell the truth i dont even thing the media portrays social justice issue because not many people care about them because they rather here about other issue like Football Score or the latest news on Britney Spears. The media would rather put in more catchy news rather then  social justice issues.

2. Has it been difficult to find articles on social justice issues why/why not?

Yes it has been hard finding social justice issues because there is a lot of other news compared to social justice news. Just as i said in the question above.

3. Do you think that the media operates from a moral framework? Give evidence by using your research.

Yes i think the media operates from a moral frame work because it seems that all of the issues in the news or newspaper are about moral issues rather then social justice issues. When looking at the Daily Telegraph’s home page every picture and headline is not a social justice issue as they are either about the football or celebrities doing something wrong.

1. Open and read the “How to write a critique” document in the resources menu;

Describe what is a critique.

- A critique involves identifying critical things to say about an article and resisting the temptation to describe rather than analyze. Let’s look at the difference.

Description is just stating facts – though each person will have a different idea of what facts are the most important ones. Description is a lot easier than analysis, which is breaking things up into themes and putting them together.

2. Outline the FOUR stages in a critique

- An introduction (which directs the reader’s attention to the

Publication and your response to it)

- A summary of the article

- Your analysis or critical commentary on the original text

- Your evaluation or conclusion

3. Can a critique be positive? Discuss.

Yes a Critique can be positive, because when outlining all of the key facts about an article you don’t have to outline the negative facts by you can outline the positive facts. Normally the media will out line the negatives because to an audience it will sound more catchy the audience will watch, therefore the media will get more money.

4. Critique the accuracy of the following articles:

http://www.theonion.com/content/video/2_year_old_donkey_called_up_to?utm_source=embedded_video

These people speaking are clearly stupid, they are being sarcastic and not meaning what they are saying. They are just making up crap.

1. Describe 2 things that you have learnt during this lesson;

One thing that i have learnt during my lesson is what refraction of light is and also the many different types optical instruments that there is.

2. Outline 3 things that you know about optical technologies;

- I know that light reflects through mirrors.

- There are over 15 Optical instruments.

- Light can bend.

3. Identify 1 aspect of the project you feel uncomfortable about and really need to know. Explain the BEST way this could be ressolved;

I really need help on the main features of optical instruments.

Values Reflection

July 31, 2008

1) What do i value in my life ?

In my like i value my family, pets, friends and surroundings. Whenever i am with my family i feel comforted, when i am around my dogs i feel happy and when i am with my friends i feel excepted. Without my family, dogs and friends i wouldn’t been the person i am today. But the one i value the most is my family as i would be debistated if anything happens to them because i will feel empty. If i loose a friend i will feel like i have lost a part of me and if i lost one of my dogs i would be really really sad.

2) Describe the ways your values are influence ?

There are many ways that my values can be influence. They can be influenced in a bad way but also they could be influence in a good way. In the case of a good way my family and i could go on a holiday and we can connect more and become a better family or my values can be influenced in a bad way consering my my family, one of my family members could die and that could tear my family apart or even make it stronger.

1. Name the issue;

-ONE issue is poverty and especially child poverty

-Another issue is Teen Drinking

2. Describe one media account of this issue

The media is always talking about poverty, mainly claiming that millions of people all over the world donate billions of dollars to poverty foundations but yet it seems that nothing has been done as still millions of families are living on the streets and only eating small amounts of food a day. Fopr example Bill Gates has donated billions of dollars to poverty in Africa but you canot see much change.

Media accounts for teen drinking has been quite popular latley as many teens are getting into fights and getting injured aswell as many teens are binged drinking and are being takin to hospital for alchol poisening.

3. Where did you get this media account from?

I got these media accounts from and article by the Daily Telegraph.

4. Is this media account correct or reliable? Why?

I dont think this media account is not reliable because they because the Daily Telegraph states that there is little change but world poverty in the last 10 years due to Live Aid where celebraties come together to raise money for poverty and many other organisations and fundraisers. Aswell that teen drinkin articles can be bias.

5. Where else might you be able to find more information about this issue?

You would be able to find out more information about this topic on poverty sites and aswell as organisation’s internet sites or even by calling call centres and donating by phone to many apeals.

And for teen drinking you can get more information from the Australian Government site and Salvation Army website as they have alot of information and statistics.

1. Describe TWO things that you have learnt during this lesson;

Two this that i have learnt during my lesson (25/7) is more understanding about Media Watch and what their aim is in each show. I have also learnt how to change news and exaggerate it. A bit like what the media does to their stories. I have also learnt about the project and what is being asked of us to do.

2. Identify TWO areas you want to concentrate on during this project that you think need a greater improvement from the last project;

One thing i want to concentrate on more that i didn’t do aswell on my previous project is doing the smaller things, such as better organization and by completing my journals better so i can get more marks for things that dont seem important but can get me a better grade.

The Second thing that i want to improve on is by following the group contract more as in my previous projects i wouldn’t follow the contract and work was not being done because there was never any punishment. Also now that i am teacher liaison and team marshal i want to do these roles to a high standard so our group can get the best possible mark.

3. Discuss TWO ways in which your group could resolve any disputes during this process;

One way that our group could solve any disputes is by always having frequent meeting so if any of our group members have something on their mind they can say it, and as a group we can figure out the best and quickest way possible that we can overcome the issue, and if the issue is something hard to solve we can get the teacher liaison to arise the issue with the teacher and solve the issue.

The second way that our group can solve any disputes/issues is by always working close to each other so that if any of our group members have a problem we can solve or answer  together as a group so that all of a group members can know the question and answer in case another group member has the same problem there will be no more need to waste time they will already know.

Mr Iemma said yesterday the Government would trial discount tickets for travel in the morning and afternoon/evening off-peak periods, offering a $36 weekly saving between Penrith and the city.

But it soon emerged the Premier’s plan came with a a lot of catches!

The 50 per cent discounts would apply only on daily tickets so commuters will have to queue for them and vary their working hours to gain the benefit.
Thousands who buy weekly, fortnightly or other long-term tickets will not qualify.

A quick mathematical calculation shows the savings are not really what the Government claims. A commuter paying $48 for a city weekly out of Penrith gains just $60 on the discount.

The Government yesterday told commuters to start work earlier as part of its plan to ease overcrowding on the trains and hundreds of billions of dollars being spent to remove graffiti on trains.

Transport Minister John Watkins said the aim of the trial was to see if the discount would encourage commuters to travel later in the day on the off peaks, so commuters will only travel on older trains to keep the new millennium train which is motley used in the peek time free from graffiti and in a good condition.
“We are hoping regular commuters to the city will see the benefits of getting into work a little earlier,” Mr Watkins said. The trial on the Western and Carlingford lines will run from August 18 to October 31.
Rail chiefs estimated the scheme would cost $680 billion based on 5 per cent of commuters taking up the discounts.
Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell said the early-bird ticket trial was far too complex and would help no one to be of real benefit.
“Long-suffering commuters will have to queue every day for to use this ticket which is a major disincentive,” Mr O’Farrell said.
“Forcing commuters to line up daily in already long ticket que

ues negates the benefit. Many ticket office windows aren’t open and ticket machines are always out of order!”
